Event Description

Hiccup:
Open Mic Poetry & Guided Drinking Hosted by Seki Lynch
Bar open all night for cocktails, beer, wine & softies
BYO Food / Order In from LOVENpresents
Poetry Proceedings from 7pm

Hiccup is a night of poetry, drinks history and, well… drinking. The night goes thus: your host, Seki Lynch, who insists you call him Bubbles throughout the evening, will give you a brief history of a spirit. After light refreshments he’ll talk you through some of the cocktails made with that spirit. Following more refreshments, Bubbles will read a few poems by poets who drank the spirit (or who embodied the spirit). The refreshments and the things Bubbles says are to be understood as inspiration. The refreshments by this point may have become heavier. This is to facilitate the dreaming.

When the dreaming phase of the night starts you will be asked to write your own short poems, not without the help of a little Dutch courage. If you get stuck, Bubbles will be there as your spirit guide. When the dreaming is over, the reading begins. With the assistance of more Dutch courage, you get to share your poem with everyone else. If you’re well oiled and still too worried about reading your poem, Bubbles may oblige to read out your poem for you. The spirit we’ll be learning about and writing about is: TEQUILA

House Rules

1) You don’t have to follow the house rules but not doing so may end in tequila
2) You will be asked to write poems on the night. You don’t have to comply but you may get heckled by the drunks
3) If you write a poem which amuses Bubbles you may be rewarded with a liquid treat
4) If you write a poem that disgruntles Bubbles, punitive action may be taken. This may or may not be tequila
5) You can heckle if you want but expect to be heckled back by others who may have more courage than you
6) If your poem about alcohol makes you emotional, you can cry. Crying may be conducted in the toilet provided. Please wash your hands after crying
7) If you must throw up, please try to do so into your shoes. Take these with you when you leave
8) If you forget who you came with it is advisable you make friends and leave with them
9) It is beyond me to think of a 9) so this is a pointless point
10) If you forget your card behind the bar simply email us your 4 digit identification code and we’ll get that puppy right back to you
11) Under no circumstances are you to give Bubbles any kind of bribe or treat

Looking forward to seeing some of you there,

May the good spirit be in you…

Bubbles x
