Friends of the Earth members removed 275 spray-cans, 29 plastic and 6 glass bottles from the river today, just by Markfield Park. Photos show before and after, and Joseph and Stanley in action with buckets and sticks.
In some ways worse though was the amount of polystyrene pellets which will get washed into the sea and ingested by fish, turtles and seabirds. We removed some of this but impossible to get it all.
Haringey must act to stop the graffiti artists dumping their cans. We are asking them to provide a recycling bin for spray-cans and to educate the young people who do the spraypainting to use the bins.
Photos show the cans before we acted; in progress; and with cans removed.
