Tottenham Hale residents boycott developer and Haringey Council tower talking shop

On 2nd November 2017 a group of Tottenham Hale residents organised a boycott of the Haringey Council developer management forum meeting to hear from Argent about their proposal for a 16-storey tower on the site of the demolished Welboirne Centre.

The protestors are residents living on the nearby Chesnut Estate and in the surrounding roads off Park View Road. Representing the Chesnut RA, Dowsett Area RA, and the Friends of Down Lane Park.

The residents are appalled that the area's mainly low-rise buildings will be dwarfed by the tower. As will the southern playground end of Down Lane Park. The ten local people protesting outside sent clear message that local people will not have their goodwill abused as part of a tick-box public engagement exercise.

The people inside the meeting included the developer family, Haringey Council officers, and the three ward councillors. They choose to sit with the developers and talk, rather than join the people they are supposed to represent. One local went in. The person said that he was attending because he is a contractor and is hoping for work. So, the regeneration payroll vote was joined by somebody wanting ( - fair enough) to earn some money.

The campaign against the Argent tower continues with a meeting from 7pm at the Volunteer pub on Chesnut Road on Thursday 9th November.
